Metal clouds discovered on a hot Jupiter

iREx researcher Jake Taylor has contributed to a detailed observation of the atmosphere of the hot Jupiter WASP-121 b. This planet's nightside, studied for the first time, is believed to have metal clouds and rains made of liquid gems!

Eve Lee wins the Annie Jump Cannon Award

Eve Lee, a McGill University professor and iREx member, has been awarded the 2022 Annie Jump Cannon Prize in Astronomy by the American Astronomical Society. The award recognises her work on the formation of stars, debris discs and planets. Congratulations, Eve!

Webb's Mirror is aligned!

Webb’s commissioning has been progressing remarkably well over the last few months. As its instruments have turned on and its mirror segments have begun aligning, the Webb team is incredibly pleased to say that the telescope is working even better than expected!

NIRPS gets prepped in Chile

The NIRPS team has been hard at work for the past few months. This instrument set to study exoplanets using the radial velocity method has finally arrived at its new home, the European Southern Observatory's 3.6-metre telescope in La Silla, Chile, where it is being installed.

TRAPPIST-1 through the eyes of JWST

On April 9th at 7pm (EDT), Olivia Lim, UdeM PhD student and iREx member, will present the webinar "TRAPPIST-1 through the eyes of JWST". This event is hosted by Karim Jaffer and organised by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada - Montreal Centre.
