Daniel Thorngren, a Trottier postdoctoral researcher at the Université de Montréal since 2019, left us in September 2022 to pursue his career at Johns Hopkins University. We asked him a few questions about his time in Montreal.

My thesis in 400 words: Antoine Darveau-Bernier

During his PhD, Antoine Darveau-Bernier at the UdeM developed techniques to study the atmosphere of the hottest exoplanets, to be used with data from the Webb telescope and other instruments. He briefly summarizes his doctoral thesis for us here.

Our team is growing!

In the fall, four students are starting a master's degree with us: Érika Le Bourdais, Amalia Karalis, Kevin Marimbu and Kim Morel. In addition, six researchers are joining the team: Anne Boucher, Yayaati Chachan, Lisa Dang (Banting Fellow), Clémence Fontanive (Trottier Fellow), Vignesh Krishnamurthy and Giang Nguyen. Welcome to our new members!
 

Prizes and Distinctions

The first recipients of the Lumbroso Grant

Marylou Fournier-Tondreau and Thomas Vandal are the first recipients of the Lumbroso iREx Ambassador Grant, which was created thanks to the contribution of a generous iREx donor to promote our students' leadership and community engagement.

Nicolas Cowan, a member of iREx, was elected to the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) College. This prestigious honour was awarded to 54 mid-career Canadians who have distinguished themselves through their work this year .

Presentation for elementary and high school students

As part of the NameExoWorlds 2022 contest, our astrophysicist and science communicator Marie-Eve Naud will present Exoplanets: New Worlds to Discover! for all elementary and secondary school classes on November 10. A great opportunity to learn more about exoplanets, which are planets orbiting other stars.
