ProsperUs Early Years Information Sessions for Service Providers

Dear Community Partners,

As the backbone organization for the collective impact initiative ProsperUs, United Way continues to work alongside residents towards community driven solutions for childhood poverty and build a Cradle to Career Strategy. We are looking to engage community service providers who deliver programs/services for caregivers aimed at helping them achieve optimal development for their child, to assist ProsperUs in the design of solutions for children 0-6.

We are looking to engage a broad spectrum of supports in our community from pre-natal care to the time children enter kindergarten. If your organization fits this description and would like to learn more about designing community solutions alongside residents in our Early Years Working Group, we would like to encourage you to attend one of the two virtual information sessions. Please also feel free to forward this broadly to your network partners working in this space.

These sessions will:
- Introduce ProsperUs and collective impact
- Provide an overview of the Cradle to Career community vision
- Discuss our work to date with the Early Years Community Action Network Working Group (parents of children 0-6)
- Share how organizations will be engaged in the solution design process
- Provide time for Question & Answer from participants

If interested, please register for a session here:
Session 1 | Tuesday, September 7 at 3:00 PM | https://bit.ly/ProsperUsEY1
Session 2 | Wednesday, September 8 at 10:00 AM | https://bit.ly/ProsperUsEY2

You can also see the sessions on our website and learn more about ProsperUs here: https://weunlockpotential.com/virtual-information-sessions-for-community-organizations-early-years/

Showcase your community during Welcoming Week 2021

We, the Immigration Matters team, invite you to participate in Welcoming Week! This international celebration brings together new and long-time residents to build strong connections and foster a sense of belonging.

We recognize the important work that many immigrant settlement organizations have already been doing in this space.
From September 10 to 19, 2021, show how your community creates welcoming spaces that help everyone, including immigrants, feel safe and accepted. Successful integration is a 2-way street: the more welcoming communities are, the more newcomers feel at home and contribute locally.

How can you participate?

It’s simple: promote stories of inclusion, connection and understanding during Welcoming Week through social media using #WelcomingWeek2021. We hope that sharing this content will encourage others to make their communities more welcoming.

Use our Welcoming Week Toolkit for ideas on how to participate, and examples of social media content and graphics you can use.

If you’re planning welcoming or newcomer activities, why not schedule them during that week?

If you’ve already held these types of activities earlier this year, feel free to reshare your photos or remind people of highlights. Everyone loves a #ThrowBackThursday!

Why should you participate?

This is the ideal opportunity to share how you welcome newcomers, to highlight how they contribute to your community and to discuss how everyone is responsible for building a culture of inclusion.

Thank you in advance for helping to showcase how welcoming communities are successful communities!

Government extends COVID-19 benefits and business supports to support stronger economic recovery

(French follows English)

Greetings,

The Government of Canada is continuing to improve the financial security of Canadians to deliver support to those who need it, heal the wounds of the pandemic recession, and build a strong recovery that leaves no one behind.

To this end, the Federal Government will extend crucial COVID-19 support measures for Canadians and Canadian businesses in recognition that uneven economic reopening across regions and sectors means workers and businesses continue to need support. These extensions include:

  • Extending the eligibility period for the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy and Lockdown Support until October 23, 2021, and increasing the rate of support employers and organizations can receive during the period between August 29 and September 25, 2021.
  • Extending the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB), the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB), and the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) until October 23, 2021.
  • Increasing the maximum number of weeks available for the CRB, by an additional 4 weeks, to a total of 54 weeks, at a rate of $300 per week, and ensuring it is available to those who have exhausted their employment insurance (EI) benefits.
As our recovery gets underway, workers and businesses in certain regions and sectors continue to need support. In the April federal budget, the government recognized that the economic and public health situation remained uncertain and made sure it had the flexibility to extend supports further into the fall as the public health situation warranted. By moving forward on these extensions, the government is ensuring that businesses – including those in hard-hit sectors like tourism, hospitality, arts, and entertainment – can continue to get the support they need so they can invest in their recovery and long-term prosperity.

In addition, the government is proposing to offer businesses greater flexibility when calculating the revenue decline used to determine eligibility for the wage and rent subsidy programs and the new Canada Recovery Hiring Program.

Province Launches New Modern Ontario Business Registry

News Release

Online registry will provide simpler, faster, and better government services beginning in October

August 17, 2021
Ministry of Government and Consumer Services

TORONTO — Ontario is launching a new Ontario Business Registry on October 19, making it easier, simpler, and more affordable for millions of businesses and not-for-profit corporations to interact with the government. The new online registry will replace out-dated technology, providing people across the province with direct access to government services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for the first time ever.

Businesses will now be able to complete over 90 transactions through the new online registry, including registering a new business and dissolving an existing one. Registrations or filings that were previously submitted by mail or fax, taking four to six weeks to complete, can now be done instantly through the online registry. When online transactions are completed, users will receive automatic email notices with electronic attachments instead of paper documents. The migration of annual return filings that were previously completed through the Canada Revenue Agency will be available through the Ontario Business Registry, allowing businesses to keep all their important filings in one place.

“Ontario’s businesses and not-for-profit corporations are overdue for a new business registry that meets the needs of our modern economy and rapidly expanding digital world,” said Ross Romano, Minister of Government and Consumer Services. “Our government’s new business registry will help ensure businesses can access the services they need quickly and efficiently in order to reduce their costs and allow them to focus their time and energy on rebuilding from the impacts of COVID-19.”

Along with the launch of the Ontario Business Registry, the Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, 2010 will come into force on October 19, which will provide a modern legislative framework for Ontario’s not-for-profit corporations. The legislation will significantly reduce the bureaucratic burden on not-for-profit corporations, moving from paper-based filings to digital services and providing them with enhanced flexibility. For the first time ever, Ontario not-for-profit corporations will be able to access an online government system for registrations and filings, saving them time and reducing duplication of paperwork. Features like pre-defined text will help users move along error-free and reduce legal costs.

“The new system will provide a modern, streamlined digital platform that saves business owners’ time by limiting the need for in-person interactions and cumbersome paperwork,” said Minister Romano. “Ontario’s businesses and not-for profit corporations will have immediate access to over 90 services, allowing them to focus more of their time on serving our communities.”

Quick Facts
  • Engagement with intermediaries such as legal professionals, accountants, and search firms to gather information to support future alignment and their use of the Ontario Business Registry will begin in September 2021.
  • Services that are currently provided by Dye & Durham Corporation and ESC Corporate Services Ltd. will continue to be offered when the Ontario Business Registry launches.
  • Ontario businesses and not-for-profit corporations can consult Ontario.ca/BusinessRegistry for more information about the new system.
  • The Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, 2010 received Royal Assent on October 25, 2010 but cannot be brought into force until the Ontario Business Registry launches.
