BUSINESS ANALYSIS &
PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Traditional to Agile Methodology and Scrum practices

A Seasoned Project Management Professional, Agile Coach & Scrum Master

Pandemic has established the online commerce trend for good. COVID-19 taught us a lesson and has changed the entire business industry all over the globe. An integral part of any business now has an Online eCommerce part. Customers of different levels of understanding the technology have embraced it for good as it provides a great deal of convenience.

The digital conversion of business now is the lifeline of any business. Existing companies having an online presence has reaped the benefit of sustaining their customer base and, in many cases, increased as many shifted from other stores due to lack of online eCommerce presence. It's a stern reminder for all the companies who did not evolve to digital platforms.

As we are recovering from this pandemic - it is time to talk about digital transformation. 90% of the organization I have worked for over the last Fourteen years as a Project Professional were not too keen on moving to an online presence to match their physical business presence. No one planned to ramp up their online store to match their physical store in times like pandemics.

My clients who have embraced the digital journey now have new customers on top of their existing ones. As a Digital IT project management professional and Scrum Master, I have taken my clients through Agile methodology Scrum practices and introduced their organizations to embrace High-Performance Delivery.

I help create a High-Performance Team based on Four fundamental values - Reliability, High Velocity, high quality, and value-driven focus. I have been successfully managing teams spreading worldwide and coached them to be Agile Champion.

If you are looking for a Project, Program Manager, Product Owner, or a Scrum Master in the Digital eCommerce space, then you have come to the right person. Let's start the discussion.

Let's Start Talking

My Expertise

I have experience in Web Development, System Engineering, Project Management, and Business Analysis with 20+ years of experience in the Health, Retail, Private, Public, Education, and Technology sectors in various countries, including New Zealand, Australia, and the USA.

A Project Professional's success does not depend only on processes as it's a team-driven effort that requires me to keep the team at the peak of their performance. While being assertive, I am compassionate, driven by empathy who will support the team to succeed.

My role became Scrum Master and an Agile Coach in an Agile world. I work closely with Product Owners, Product Analysts and prioritize the deliverables by keeping the product backlogs healthy while ensuring various processes within the delivery model abide by compliance and quality control.

Project Management

I am passionate about completing the full life-cycle of the project. Following PMI guidelines, it starts with clear project goals as well as understanding each member’s tasks, responsibilities, expectations, and feedback. I begin with the Project Initiation Document (PID) and the Statement of Work (SoW). The document will have details about People, Processes, and Product involved in the project.

Productivity & Reporting

Technology and software-based tools make managing project easy and extends team collaboration and communication essential for project success. Up to date reporting is a critical factor in ensuring stakeholders are at ease with the progress of the project. I love to communicate more than usual and found the project dashboard is beneficial. I use JIRA to various other market-leading tools to ensure the project team has access to all the required information at any given time.

Concepts & Methodologies

It has been a burning question for any business embarking on a project. Most of the development work fits into Agile, but traditional methods fit in as well. I will review the project vision, deliverable, team status, and then will select the process that suits. I think what is best for the project rather than trying to force it to fit a particular methodology. I do bring SCRUM framework in the project, which helps the team understand the order of importance, adaptability, customer satisfaction, and boosting morale.

Business Analysis

Most of the businesses get confused around PM and BA role. Before embarking on a project, I will carry out Business Analysis of the solution which the project will accomplish. In most cases, I have carried out the analysis or hired BA to do an extensive investigation. Besides producing BRD or FRD, Stories & Epics, an Impact Analysis will help planning the risk mitigation.

My Role in Agile & as a Scrum Master ?

Over the years, I have heard this common phrase - Team cannot focus on bigger goals as they work only on a few features or even fire fighting while there are many interruptions. Most organizations' Sprints are full of scope changes, and the teams do not get better sprint by sprint. Stakeholders often do not respect the delivered solution.

At the organizational level, the team's result is unsatisfactory, while Managers think the team is too slow. Managers do not know what is happening within the team at a broader level. But often, when the unit gets to know about Scrum Master to work on those issues, they would perceive the role as a "Baby-Sitter." In most of the organizations I have joined in the last 14 years, I felt it and am not alone.

The role of a Scrum Master is still very new. I work behind the scenes and do not get involved too deeply in Product Development or Strategy. I am the bridge between product/business owners and development teams. As a Scrum Master, I strive to improve the delivery process while creating a culture of accountability and helping team to meet critical deadlines.

Scrum Master job by default starts when I felt like a catalyst my organization needed. I have constantly worn the hat of Project Manager and Scrum Master which are two different roles. With any new client, I like to understand the environment and the need that triggered to hire me. That helps me to create my mission statement

My usual approach with a new client is to ensure Scrum Framework becomes part of their work culture. If they already have the framework integrated then I ensure the 3 categories of this framework - Scrum Team, Scrum Events, and Scrum Artifacts have been established and are in use properly.

So far every client I have worked for, even though they want to adopt Agile, but very few could adopt it perfectly. The reason is change management and how the change is being handled by the entire company. I have worked with Product Owners to ensure the company is aware of critical change management requirements.

Why Hire  Me ?

As a professional, I share a friendly rapport with my colleagues and clients while being assertive. It did not build up in a day. I gave 101% to every single project I was responsible for and took years by keeping good track records. I gained the trust of my client, colleagues, and other stakeholders. Understanding this crucial aspect of professional acceptance made me realize it is easy to miss one point resulting undermining of all my good work. In fact "Trust" can be presented in an equation - Trust is equal to the sum of my Credibility (C) plus my Reliability (R), plus my Intimacy with the other person (I), all divided by my Self-orientation (S).

T = (C + R + I) / S

Credibility refers to the client believing in my knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience to deliver the services they need. Reliability is delivering good work but also the question of whether I will keep them updated and deliver the work, as per my promised timeline and budget. Intimacy refers to my client feeling safe, sharing professional concerns in confidence. Self-orientation is tricky cause I am not philanthropic. It refers to the extent to which my clients, colleagues, or stakeholder perceive me acting out of self-interest.

I built all my trusted relationship through integrity , taking full responsibility for my decision and actions. The above equation automatically falls into place, scoring a high level of trust by following these above personal practices.

Risk Mitigation
In any process change, workflow mapping or change management, there's always a risk whether new methodology will work or not. I carry out Business Analysis or Business Impact Analysis to ensure my contingency plan aligns with Risk Mitigation plan correctly.
