What is the My New St. John’s Expo?

This event is an opportunity for newcomers to St. John’s & friends to connect with their communities as organizations and agencies from across the city come together to help newcomers integrate and feel welcomed. It’s also an opportunity for current residents to discover opportunities and services they weren’t previously aware of.

 

What can I expect?

Attendees can expect to connect with organizations and departments that provide services to the St. John’s community from a variety of sectors including: housing, healthcare, finances, recreation, transportation and more. This event is a networking and learning opportunity to help newcomers feel more acquainted with their new home. It is also a great place to meet other newcomer and newcomer serving agencies who are sharing similar experiences!

 

 

 

How do I get there? Where can I park?

Metrobus will be providing free transportation on a load & go basis between 11:30am – 1:30pm with the route traveling between Memorial University [University Centre], College of the North Atlantic Prince Philip Drive [main entrance] & onwards to the My New St. John’s Expo at the St. John’s Community Market [245 Freshwater Rd]

If you are driving, there is public parking available in the Market’s lot just off of Terra Nova Road. Visual reference here.

If you are cycling, there are bicycle racks at the front & side of the Market building.

If you are using the Metrobus outside of the free shuttle hours, routes #10 [serving areas: Memorial University, downtown & Avalon Mall] and #12 [serving areas: Village & Avalon Mall & Ropewalk Lane] serve this area with a bus stop on Freshwater Rd.

Waste & Recycling division, Public Works department, City of St. John’s

The Waste and Recycling Division of the City of St. John’s Department of Public Works is responsible for providing curbside waste collection for St. John’s residents including garbage, curbside recycling, yard waste and the future curbside compost program.

We also operate the Robin Hood Bay Regional Waste Management Facility, a modern and environmentally-sound, integrated waste management facility that services the Eastern region of the province.

The recent changes at Robin Hood Bay and the introduction of the curbside recycling and yard waste service have been guided by the Provincial Waste Management Strategy.
