Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant Program recipients

The Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant Program offers two grant options: the Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant and the Active Transportation Network Planning Grant. 

The 2021-22 grant program will support 33 infrastructure projects and 29 active transportation network plans provincewide, totalling almost $13.7 million in cost-share funding.

The Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant recipients are:

Northern B.C.

  • Burns Lake in partnership with Lake Babine Nation - $500,000
    The Centre Street 2021 Active Transportation project will be a 796-metre active-transportation sidewalk that will connect Lake Babine Nation to Burns Lake.
  • Skidegate First Nation and Village of Queen Charlotte - $213,633
    The Skidegate-Queen Charlotte Multi-use Commuter Route will be a 12.5-kilometre bicycle/pedestrian route along Highway 16 between Skidegate and Queen Charlotte, as well as signed “bikeways” along low-traffic roads that parallel Highway 16.
  • Terrace - $156,555
    The City of Terrace End of Trip Secure Bike Storage Shelters project involves installing prefabricated secure bike parking shelters at select public buildings.

Kootenays

  • District of Invermere - $500,000
    The 13th Avenue Multi-Use Trail project will consist of 550 metres of separated multi-use trail enhancements.
  • District of Sparwood - $272,358
    The Active Transportation Corridor project will be 1.7 kilometres of active-transportation paved pathways that will link two major gaps in the district’s pathway network.
  • Fernie - $500,000
    The Annex Park Trail project will pave the 1.9-kilometre Annex Park trail loop between the West Fernie Bridge and the Leo T. Nimsick Bridge.
  • Kimberley - $204,628
    The Townsite Multi-Use Pathway Improvement project will upgrade existing dirt pathways to create 0.46 kilometres of safe multi-use pathways.

Thompson Okanagan

  • Chase - $119,100
    The Pedestrian Safety Improvements-Chase Street/Thompson Avenue project will include 70 metres of new sidewalk, wheelchair let downs, signage and road markings.
  • Columbia Shuswap Regional District in partnership with Splatsin te Secwépemc - $500,000
    The Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail - Sicamous to Mara: Early Access Safety and Asset Protection project will develop the preliminary 19.8-kilometre rail trail corridor to create safe public access for active transportation.
  • District of Clearwater - $331,353
    The Multi-Use Pathway-Safe Connector project will be a 780-metre paved multi-use pathway.
  • Kamloops - $451,458
    The Westsyde Road Multi-Use Path project will construct 430 metres of paved multi-use path along Westsyde Road and extend an existing multi-use path.
  • Kelowna - $500,000
    The Casorso Active Transportation Corridor project delivers a 700-metre protected bike route that includes sections that separate pedestrians and cyclists from high-speed, high-traffic areas and separates bike lanes from sidewalks.
  • Merritt - $203,976
    The Rotary Park Multi-Use Pathway Upgrade and Voght Street Connections is a multi-use pathway for all users at Rotary Park and at Central Park.
  • Revelstoke - $192,705
    The Airport Way Multi-Use Trail project consists of a 600-metre multi-use path that will be the final section of a 4.5-kilometre pedestrian and cycling network.
  • Salmon Arm - $500,000
    The Ross Street Underpass (Phase 1) will be a new multi-modal underpass of the Canadian Pacific Railway that includes 260 metres of new sidewalk providing a direct connection between the downtown core and the waterfront.
  • Tk'emlups te Secwépemc Kamloops Indian Reserve #1 - $500,000
    The East Shuswap Road Multi-Use Path will be a 300-metres multi-use path along East Shuswap Road providing connectivity to the Chief Louis Centre lands.
  • Vernon - $500,000
    The Silver Star Road Multi-Use Path Phase 1 project will construct 1,250 metres of paved multi-use pathway along Silver Star Road.

South Coast

  • Chilliwack in partnership with Tzeachten First Nation - $500,000
    The Chilliwack River Road Pedestrian and Cycling Improvements - Phase 1 project will construct a multi-use pathway along Chilliwack River Road.
  • Chilliwack in partnership with Tzeachten First Nation - $500,000
    The Chilliwack River Road Pedestrian and Cycling Improvements - Phase 2 project will extend the multi-use pathway to Bailey Road, adding an additional 386 metres.
  • Coquitlam - $500,000
    The Austin Avenue Sidewalk project construct will build 600 metres of sidewalk on Austin Avenue between Guilby Street and Walker Street.
  • Mission - $500,000 - The 7th Avenue Greenway Phase 1 project will construct 1.6 kilometres of bike lanes and sidewalks and other facilities.
  • New Westminster - $500,000
    The Agnes Greenway is a 1.2-kilometre multi-modal transportation corridor to support safe and comfortable walking, wheeling, and cycling.
  • Powell River - $62,978
    The Protected Intersection at Manson Avenue and Duncan Street project will eliminate vehicle left-turn lanes on Duncan and provide protection for cyclists.

Vancouver and Gulf islands

  • District of Central Saanich - $500,000
    The Central Saanich - Priority School Zone Improvements project will construct new crosswalks with flashing lights, as well as several hundred metres of sidewalk extensions adjacent to Keating Elementary and the Wallace Drive/Marchant Road Intersection.
  • District of Sooke - $500,000
    The District of Sooke – Active Transportation Church Road Corridor project will add concrete sidewalks, bike lanes, intersection improvements and additional amenities.
  • District of Sooke - $500,000
    The District of Sooke - Active Transportation Church Road/Throup Road Roundabout project will include 380 metres of sidewalks and bike lanes in both directions, audible/braille crosswalk controls and signals and a roundabout at the intersection of Church Road and Throup Road.
  • Ladysmith - $296,343
    Ladysmith Active Transportation Infrastructure 2021 project will build two new sidewalks, make several safety upgrades and install two e-bike stations.
  • Nanaimo - $500,000
    The Metral Complete Street Corridor Phase 2 project will consist of 1.7 kilometres of continuous sidewalks, unidirectional protected cycle tracks, raised intersections, curb extensions and marked crosswalks.
  • Nanoose First Nation (Snaw-Naw-As) - $441,144
    The Nanoose First Nation (Snaw-Naw-As) Multi-Use Trail Connection project will build a 450-metre multi-use pathway, improve lighting along the connection to the market and employment hub, and connect to a future regional trail network.
  • Port McNeill - $290,584
    The Hemlock Street Active Transportation upgrades project will install a 211-metre multi-use sidewalk along a high-traffic corridor and complete a connection to a seniors’ accessibility ramp being installed from the seniors’ housing complex.
  • Port Hardy - $221,981
    The Granville Street to Trustee Sidewalk and Pathway project will consist of 760 metres of sidewalk along the busy collector road of Granville Street and 400 metres of pathway to connect a residential area to downtown and recreation sites.
  • Toquaht Nation - $350,854
    The Secret Beach Coastal Trail project will construct a 1.3-kilometre gravel multi-use path that will connect Toquaht’s village of Macoah to the new Secret Beach subdivision.
  • Victoria - $500,000
    The Kimta Road/E&N Trail - All Ages and Abilities Connector will construct 1.2 kilometres of cycling infrastructure that connects downtown Victoria with the regional trail network.
