[D-2-8] SHORT-TERM STUDY VISA

A Student who has been given admission to study for less than 1 year including summer/winter school program that does not exceed 90 days.


If the course or program is to study Korea, apply D-4-1 Korean Language Trainee visa.


The holder of this visa is not allowed to engage in any other activity for remuneration such as a part-time job. In case a froeign student breaks this rule, he/she will be pnalised according to the article 94 or 95 of Immigration Law. 

※ Please note that applicants from certain countries who are presently in Canada (ex: temporary workers, international students etc.) must have been residing in Canada for at least 2 years (730 days) continuously when submitting a visa application.


 Visa Information


▷Period of Stay: Up to 1 year (you will receive the duration indicated on your Certificate of Admission)

▷Validation of Visa:  3 months from the visa issuance

▷Entry: Single entry

▷Visa Fee: $52 CAD for less than 90 days, $78 CAD for more than 90 days for Canadians (Cash or Money Order)

▷Processing Time: Approximately 14 business days


 Required Documents (※ PLEASE PREPARE ALL THE DOCUMENTS IN ORDER)


1. Visa Application Form (Attached file #1)

    -Section 1.7 National Identity Number: SIN #

    -Section 2.2 Visa Code: Your visa category you are applying for.


2. Original Passport and a photocopy of passport (For Non-Canadian, provide valid Canadian visa)

    - Original passport must have a validity of 6 months or more left

    - If you are not Canadian, photocopy of PR Card or other Canadian Valid Visa such as Work/Study Permit

    ※ PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT FOR NON-CANADIANS TO APPLY FOR VISA, THOSE OF THE FOLLOWING NATIONALITY: CHINA, PHILIPPINES, INDONESIA, VIETNAM, MONGOL, THAILAND, PAKISTAN, SRI LANKA, INDIA, MYANMAR, NEPAL, IRAN, RUSSIA, UZBEKISTAN, KAZAKHSTAN, KRYGYZSTAN, UKRAINE, NIGERIA, GHANA, EGYPT, PERU SHOULD BE A RESIDENT OF CANADA FOR MORE THAN TWO YEARS AND WILL BE ASKED TO SUBMIT GOVERNMENT ISSUED DOCUMENTATION TO PROVE. 


3. 1 Colour Photo (size 3.5 x 4.5cm)

    - White background, date stamped taken within 6 months at the back of the photo


4. Certificate of Admission

     - Issued by the dean/president of the college or university; the certificate should include the student's scholastic information and financial status


5. A copy of Business Registration Certificate of the respective education institute (Saupjadeungrokjeung/사업자등록증)


6. Proof of Enrollment from the current university or college in Canada (must be an official letter from your current academic institution, not a confirmation of tution payment, courses page screen shot...etc)


7. Document proving your finanacial ability to support yourself (tuition fee and the living expenses for your stay)

     - Certified Bank statement (official account summary letter issued by the bank or account statement with certified bank stamped)

     - If submitting a parent's bank statement instead, you must submit a written & signed permission from the parent proving your relationship and that they will cover your expenses + original and copy of certified copy of birth registration or statement of live birth to prove the relationship.


8.  Visa Fee (Only Cash or Money Order)

     - $52 CAD for less than 90 days (for Canadians)

     - $78 CAD for more than 90 days (for Canadians)


9. Documents to prove renunciation (국적상실/이탈신고)

      Only applicable for those who had Korean nationality in the past. 


      - [If you reported before 2008]

        o If you have reported renunciation before 2008, please provie jejokdeungbon (제적등본) issued within 3 months from the date of application


      - [If you reported after 2008]

        o If you have reported renunciation after 2008, please provide basic cetificate (기본증명서) and family relation certificate (가족관계증명서) issued within 3 months from the date of application in detailed version (상세, 전부공개)


       ※ Photocopied of these documents can be submitted but not printed photos. Please be aware that if the documents have 2 pages, you must submit the second page also.

 ※ Please refer to each visa category you’re applying for to verify the required documents for your visa category. 


※ If you already received a visa, but never used before and have a remaining validity date, you cannot resubmit your visa application. 


※ Please note that additional documents may be requested upon Consul’s review


※ All Visa applicants must be physically present within our jurisdictions (QC, NB, NS, PEI, NL) at the time of application. It is unlawful to ship your passport overseas. 


※ The head of Korean diplomatic missions abroad may request for additional documents depending on the condition of the country of residence/jurisdiction if it is deemed necessary for visa evaluation.


※ After your visa has been submitted, all submitted supporting documents will not be returned back to the applicant except your original passport, PR Card, Visa Permits. During the visa process, you may cancel your visa but, we do not return your submitted documents and visa fee. 


※ When you apply your visa through Canada Prepaid Xpress envelope, please keep your tracking # (MW 000 000 000 CA). You must include Canada Prepaid Xpress return envelope (return address written on it) and original passport along with other visa documents. 


※ Please be aware that incomplete application package will be returned back to you without processing.
