Classification

Ben Delaney collected a second Paralympic Games medal in 2018 as Canada took the silver in Para ice hockey. He was the youngest member on the national Para ice hockey team (age 17) at the 2014 Paralympic Games and he made an immediate impact as Canada won the bronze medal.

Besides reaching the podium, another highlight for Delaney in Sochi was scoring his first Paralympic Games goal in a 10-1 victory over Sweden in Canada’s opening game.

He enjoyed plenty of success in his first season with Canada’s national team in 2013. He helped Canada to gold at the World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Toronto and the Four Nations Tournament in Sochi. In 2012-13, Delaney was part of the national development team.

Delaney, a former stand-up player, had his left leg amputated above the knee at age 12 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, the same bone cancer that afflicted Terry Fox.
