Draft Management Plan, 2023

The strategic direction for the management and operation of Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site of Canada

What is a Parks Canada management plan?

Canada’s national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas are places that protect Canada’s natural and cultural heritage, and offer experiences for visitors. A Parks Canada management plan guides management decisions and actions, and serves as a key accountability document to the public for each place. It also includes key strategies, objectives and targets to achieve expected results. A management plan is the road map that guides us to:

  • protect natural and cultural resources;
  • facilitate visitor experiences and learning opportunities; and
  • collaborate with Indigenous partners and other partners and stakeholders.

Under the Canada National Parks Act, we are required to review the site management plan every ten years. Parks Canada intends to approve a new management plan for the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site in 2024. We are currently in the Consultation phase of the Management Planning Cycle.
