Why should my school become a member?

Today, Home and School’s role is more important than ever... in connecting parents, guardians, teachers, administrators, EAs, school bus drivers, custodians and supporting critical school needs. As a team we can do more together than apart. Home and School’s mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging with the school community to advocate for all children.

How do we join?

Local Home and School Association presidents / treasurers are asked to submit a membership fee annually by November 1st. The fee is $100 for schools having less than 200 students and $200 for more than 200 students. Pay online, by cheque or cash.

Check with your school’s Home and School president or principal to ensure your school is a member of the Federation. If your school does not have a Home and School association, think about getting some parents together and speak with your principal about starting one.

Home and School provides...

… a way to get involved in your child’s education and learn more about what is happening in your child’s school. It is an opportunity to meet other parents and educators in your school community; discuss education topics that are important to you, such as curriculum content, class size, class composition, school bus safety, drugs and health education, and when there are gaps in the education system, parents and teachers can hold conversations to raise issues with government through a resolution process.

Home and School Matters...

...when issues affecting children and schools are discussed at a local Home and School meeting, families join forces with school administrators, staff and others to find the best solutions that will work for all students’ benefit. Home and School has the ability to use its collective voice to advocate for the best possible learning experience for students with the critical decision-makers.

The PEI Home and School Federation gives parents and teachers a united and stronger voice to influence change that will better the lives of all children and youth.

Make a Difference for All Children

Joining a province-wide network of over ten thousand parents, guardians, educators, youth, school bus drivers and custodians allows everyone to work together for the benefit of all children and youth in Prince Edward Island.  Home and School presidents will receive the latest news on advocacy priorities and activities.

When we speak together with one voice, we are champions for children.

Do I have to attend many meetings?

Do I have to attend many meetings? No, however, if you attend, you learn more about your child’s school and school community and the critical links between the home and the school. The principal will be present to provide an education update on what is happening in your school community. Do offer suggestions on how to improve your school community – others will appreciate fresh ideas!
