Major Lazer Debut Their Final Album's Lead Single, "Can't Take It From Me"
Featuring Bob Marley’s grandson Skip Marley.
Nearly one year after linking up with Chaka Khan for a collaborative record known as “Like Sugar,” Major Lazer are launching the promotional campaign and rollout for Music Is The Weapon — their fourth full-length studio album and the follow-up to 2015’s Peace Is The Mission — by debuting the LP’s lead single, “Can’t Take It From Me.” This latest release from the trio of Diplo, Walshy Fire and Jillionaire features Skip Marley (Bob Marley’s grandson), and serves as our first taste of the project that’s billed as Major Lazer’s final album.
“Music is so fast nowadays. It’s like we’re in a hip-hop cycle all the time; a new rapper comes out and careers last like two years these days. Everything is so rushed, so we’re just so lucky we can get things out on the radio these days,” Diplo originally explained to Complex for a September 2018 interview. “I think this project has enough energy around it that we’re able to keep being relevant, that’s the essence of being great DJs. We all love music ,so we don’t have to get stuck in a certain style … Next year marks our last album, so we got a lot of stuff in between now and then.”
When asked for an official confirmation of Major Lazer’s swan song, Diplo was straightforward. “Yeah, I think so, because I got [these] other side projects, like LSD with Sia and Silk City,” he told Complex.
