Adrian Miramon Quiroga, Coastal Men's Single Sculls, Spain, Sunday Racing, 2019 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, Shenzhen, China

This exciting branch of coastal rowing is happening for the second time with the 2021 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals starting on Friday 24 September.

The inaugural event was in 2019 in China and now it comes to Europe to be raced on the beach of Praia da Torre in Oeiras, Portugal. The format sees a beach start with participants running to their boats on the water’s edge. They then row out around three buoys, slalom-style, for 250m then row back to the beach. The participant then gets out of their boat and sprints up the beach to the finish line.

There are four boat classes; men’s and women’s solo (single sculls), mixed double sculls and mixed coxed quadruple sculls. This year, the programme will also include five junior boat classes; men’s and women’s solo (single sculls), men’s and women’s double sculls and mixed double sculls.

Schedule:

  • 24 September – Time trials for all boat classes
  • 25 September – Round 2 for the CM1x and CW1x, and finals for junior men’s solo (CJM1x), women’s solo (CJW1x), mixed double sculls (CMix2x) and mixed coxed quadruple sculls (CMix4x+).
  • 26 September – Round 3 for the CM1x and finals for junior men’s double sculls (CJM2x), junior women’s double sculls (CJW2x), junior mixed double sculls (CJMix2x), men’s solo (CM1x) and women’s solo (CW1x).
