Skills2SucSEED (S2S) is a virtual program spanning all of Nova Scotia for youth connected to or at risk of being connected to social assistance and child welfare systems. S2S supports participants in developing digital literacy, wellness, and pre-employability skills through group workshops and individual sessions where they are incentivized to attend and participate.

The workshops are developed by the facilitators who create content that is interesting and relevant to the participants based on the program topics. They use a variety of techniques to deliver this information, including guest speakers, games and activities.

Phases 1 & 2 consist of 2-hour virtual workshops twice a week to enhance employability skills. They also include self-reflections and one-on-one meetings once a week with an S2S facilitator. Each of these phases lasts 6 weeks.

Phase 3 is the in-person work placement. Staff will work with participants to find work in the area of their interest. This placement lasts up to 8 weeks.

Each phase must be completed before youth can move onto the next one.

“I loved the program, I thought it was really fun and great. It was cool to get gift cards and money, but I loved all the things we went over such as how to make a resume, cover letter, and so much more. The computer is awesome, everything was awesome, it was easy to log on, and it was all fun. I hope you enjoy the program as much as I did.”

“S2S is designed to be great for someone who is trying to look for work and and is trying to learn how to become a person that works.  I would very highly recommend doing the program. It is helpful for people. Of course, people want to learn and so this program is so great so far for me! I’ve made it through phase one and two and now in phase 3 I am working! This definitely works! “

- Male, 17 (Dartmouth)

“S2S was and will continue to be an extremely beneficial aspect to my life. The program helped me, and will continue to help me. Skills 2 Succeed taught me how to work hard, and that I am capable of anything if I put my mind to it. It showed me that opportunities could become more than just things that I wanted to achieve, but rather things that I could achieve. For me, it was the confidence booster that I needed, to simply believe in myself a little more.  A lot of the time opportunities are right in front of you, and it is just a matter of striving to reach them. Sometimes, all you need is a little push forward to get you going in the right direction and then you can strive, and do anything that you believe you can do.  The people that I have worked with in this program have helped me in many different ways, and I would never be able to thank them enough. It was a very informational and educational experience for me, and it taught me a lot about life skills that everyone needs to thrive in society. I will be forever grateful for the opportunities that this program has provided to me.”

- Female, 15 (antigonish)

“I really enjoyed the Seed program. I think that it is a great way to learn about how to be productive while working, and to learn skills for different situations you may come across in the workforce. Attending the Seed program is also a great way to get work experience to put on a resume. I highly recommend it!”

- Female, 14 (Kentville)

“I was super excited about the program when I first found out about it. In the intake call I found out that I would get paid for it like a job, and that l would be sent a Chromebook that I would be able to keep, which was a huge bonus. I would love the program so much even if I didn't get paid for it. It's been an amazing opportunity for me, and I'm really looking forward to my very first job placement. Thank you guys for making it fun with all the fun and games.

-Female, 16 (halifax)

"My favourite part of the program was the online course parts, it was great to communicate with new friends I made.I enjoyed working at (my placement)! My co-workers were kind, and communicated well with me! The managers were also very helpful on training me with what to do. I learned a lot about community, and work interviews. The program was designed very well, and it was great to meet you all, I felt respected and safe. Thank you!"
