Students Showcase Skills in Owen Sound

The Bluewater District School Board and Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board across eight secondary schools all gather in Owen Sound last Friday taking part in the Regional Technological Skills Challenge.

Hosted by the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program the competitions spanned a range of categories including Carpentry, Culinary, Electrical Installations, Hairstyling and Welding.

Students from Saugeen District Senior School, Sacred Heart and Owen Sound District Secondary all claimed some top spots at the competition with some moving on to the 2024 Skills Ontario Qualifying Competitions in Barrie on April 13th.

Culinary

Welding

1. Clayton Wood – John Diefenbaker Senior School

2. Parker Elphick – Sacred Heart High School

Hairstyling

1. Riley Hayball – Owen Sound District Secondary School

2. Austin Ceaser – Owen Sound District Secondary School

3. Gloria Libicz – Owen Sound District Secondary School

Electrical Installations

2. Dakota MacInnis – Saugeen District Senior School

Carpentry – Team of Two
