Maxime Laoun

BIOGRAPHY

A recent addition to the national short track team, Maxime Laoun authored one of the most amazing comeback stories our sport has seen.

Laoun qualified for the World Junior Championships three times, finishing with a fourth in the 500m and eighth overall in his final appearance in 2016. He made his World Cup debut during the 2019-2020 season, taking part in a pair of events – and earning a bronze medal in the men’s relay – before his first international campaign was cut short due to a devastating injury.

The Montreal native was sidelined for over a year after suffering a triple spiral fracture of the tibia and a facture of the fibula during a training session in November 2019. After months of rehabilitation, he made a triumphant return to international competition in March 2021, when he qualified for the first World Championships of his young career. He finished sixth in the 1500m and just outside the top-10 in the overall rankings, in 11th position.
