KOKRAJHAR: BJP is committed to the people of the state and has been working to fulfil its promises, especially to the indigenous people of the state, party’s state president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said on the first of the three-day party convention organised by Tribal Morcha here.
Addressing the people from the HS&MP School playground here, Dass said the BJP government in the state had given land to the landless indigenous people, clauses of BTR accords were being implemented, Boro has been made an associate official language of Assam and lands of Xatras that have been illegally encroached upon have been freed.
“BJP will ensure protection of indigenous communities besides giving them equal rights and privileges,” Dass said.
Dass was welcomed by party leaders and supporters on the Kendriya Vidhyalaya premises of Jwhwlao Dwimalu Road, Titaguri, from where he was taken to Kokrajhar as part of a motorcycle rally.
When asked about holding of BTC elections, Dass said the state government was working to ensure the surge of Covid-19 cases in the state and its protocol in a strict manner. “The situation might improve in December and we hope the elections can be held then,” he said.
Dass said BJP had started reaching out to Minority Morcha, Tribal Morcha, Mahila Morcha, etc, across the state to address their issues and will also hold meeting programmes.
Over the next couple of days, state minister and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma is expected to attend the ST Morcha meeting on Tuesday, while chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal will address the meeting on Wednesday.
