Love Local BC

Thank you to everyone who supported Love Local BC, our business partners and casino service providers. Together, we supported 105 local businesses from across the province and raised $17,509 to participating food banks in B.C. Our food drives in select casinos will be providing non-perishable food items to their local food banks. With the holidays just around the corner, these contributions will have a tremendous impact in our communities.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding an item purchased during this campaign, please email Mica Cobarrubia at mcobarrubia@inventaworld.com

Food Banks BC

Food Banks BC is the provincial association of food banks. Our membership comprises of 102 hunger relief agencies throughout British Columbia.

We support our members through the provision of resources that assist their efforts to tackle hunger in communities they represent. This is achieved through the distribution of food and financial donations, providing access to training and capacity building programs, networking opportunities, and as a representative voice to speak to the needs of food banks as well as the hundreds of thousands of British Columbians who face ongoing food insecurity.

Our vision is an end to hunger in BC.

The Friends in Need Food Bank Society

The Friends in Need Food Bank serves as the food hub in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. Not only does it provide food to its registered clients, but it also works with any community organization or charity dealing with food insecurity. One of the programs it operates is the School Meal/Snack Program providing food on a weekly basis to 23 of the elementary and senior schools in SD42 as well as six alternative education programs. Another program the Friends in Need is very proud of is the Perishable Food Recovery Program which picks up food from local grocers diverting it from landfills. In two years, it has repurposed more than 2 million pounds of food of which 50% was used by the food bank and other charities; 40% went to fresh farm feed, and 10% was composted. This also resulted in a savings of almost 2 million kg of CO2 emissions.

It draws the support of local citizens, food distributers, schools and churches, local businesses and other community organizations.

We service the municipalities of View Royal, Langford, Colwood, Highlands, East Sooke and Metchosin.
