On June 1, 2020 - Without any public consultation, the Government of Alberta rescinded a Coal Development Policy. As a result 1.5 million hectares of formerly protected environmentally significant lands in the Eastern Slopes of the Rocky Mountains of Alberta are now open for coal exploration, development and mining.
