Funding history, breakdown for two business grant programs

The funding history and allocations for the Small and Medium Sized Business Recovery Grant program and the Circuit Breaker Business Relief Grant are as follows:

  • Sept. 17, 2020: as part of StrongerBC: BC’s Economic Recovery Plan, the government announced $300 million for the Small and Medium Sized Business Recovery Grant.
  • Dec. 21, 2020: the fund was increased to $345 million, with $100 million dedicated to tourism businesses hit hard by the pandemic.
  • April 8, 2021: approximately $55 million from the Small and Medium Sized Business Recovery Grant fund was redirected to the Circuit Breaker Business Relief Grant to help the 14,000 restaurants, bars, breweries and wineries, as well as gyms and fitness centres, impacted by the March 30, 2021, provincial health officer’s orders. This brought the total funding available through the Small and Medium Sized Business Recovery Grant to $290 million.
  • April 26, 2021: more than $75 million was added to the Circuit Breaker Business Relief Grant program, bringing the amount available for hard-hit B.C. businesses to more than $130 million.
  • June 4, 2021: the $290 million available through the Small and Medium Sized Business Recovery Grant program has been fully committed. The deadline for Small and Medium Sized Business Recovery Grant applications is now July 2, 2021. Until then, government will continue to accept applications, which are expected to result in an additional $140 million in grants, for a total of approximately $430 million.
