Starting a Neighbourhood Association

On behalf of Credit Valley Conservation and City of Brampton, thank you to those who were able to join us on May 28 for the How to Start a Neighbourhood Association online meeting with fellow residents.

We want to extend a special thanks to our guest Harpreet Singh (President of County Court Neighbourhood Association) for his time and valuable advice. The examples of County Court NA's activities, groups's history and valuable insights on how to overcome challenges were enlightening and inspiring.  

Key highlights from the event discussion:  
  • Getting together and taking the first step to starting a neighbourhood group can be challenging. Start small. Get to know your neighbours first. Start the dialogue by picking a specific park, street or location in the neighbourhood as your focus to see what activities and enhancements can occur in these common areas.
  • Coffee nights are a great way to meet your neighbours. Summertime bi-weekly walks can also be quick starting points. In light of COVID-19, virtual coffee nights and other fun ways to connect with neighbours are suggested.
  • Seek out services that support the needs of your community such as small businesses, City services, employment resources. Align your values with the organizations or groups that you want to partner with.

You Can Become a Citizen Scientist!

CVC’s second annual Butterfly Blitz is now underway.

We invite you to get involved in this fun, family-friendly and interactive citizen science program It's on now until September 26. 

You can help build a watershed-wide inventory of butterflies across the Credit River Watershed.

Many of us recognize the important role that butterflies play as pollinators, but did you know they also help scientists, such as those at CVC, monitor and understand ecosystem health? The data you collect in your neighbourhood will contribute valuable insights to help protect and restore wildlife habitat.

Peel Environmental Youth Alliance's (PEYA) Climate Conversations
Thursday June 25, 2020, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Join PEYA's online Climate Conversations panel with a number of speakers from various backgrounds working in the environmental and climate sector. This question and answer style panel will introduce youth to a variety of careers in the environment, inspire environmental action, and explore how PEYA can help guide their career path. PEYA's Youth in Action Credit Connections
Online Information Session on Tuesday June 30, 2020

Are you between ages 15-30 and working to reduce your impact on the environment? Do you want to centre Indigenous perspectives on the land and stewardship?  The Youth in Action – Credit Connections program blends an inspiring workshop series led by Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, Elders, artists and youth with mentorship from staff at Ecosource to help you take environmental action! Participants will gain 120 hours of volunteer experience. Learn more and register.
