VicPD To Offer Experienced Officer Incentive To Attract Experienced Officers

Victoria, BC – VicPD will begin offering a one-time $20,000 Experienced Officer Incentive to experienced police officers who join VicPD starting November 1^st, 2021.

Twelve experienced officers will be offered the temporary, one-time $20,000 Experienced Officer Incentive as VicPD looks to immediately hire additional officers to address ongoing front-line resource shortages.

“While Victoria is a beautiful place to live and work, it is one of the most expensive places in Canada to live,” Chief Del Manak said. “With over 35 officers unable to be deployed to frontline duty, the hard limits on training spaces available to us and the timelines required to recruit and train new officers, we need to hire the best police officers from across Canada to relocate and serve here in Victoria and Esquimalt.”

Experienced police officers serving with other Canadian police departments can be hired and deployed to frontline service after qualifying with B.C. provincial policing standards, reducing the turnaround time to days or weeks. Experienced officers also bring valuable training, skills and experience to their work in Victoria and Esquimalt.

VicPD does not currently provide relocation or travel expenses for experienced officers hired from other jurisdictions.
