Victoria, BC – Patrol officers are asking for witnesses and information after a 72-year-old man was assaulted in Esquimalt on Saturday morning.

At approximately 6 a.m. on Saturday, January 29th, a 72-year-old man was delivering newspapers near Greenwood Avenue and Kinver Street in Esquimalt when he was approached by an unknown man. The man first demanded the victim’s wallet and other personal items, and then punched the victim in the face. The victim was knocked to the ground. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and did not require BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.

The suspect was last seen fleeing eastbound on Kinver Street, toward Wychbury Avenue. The suspect is described as a 25 to 40-year-old Caucasian man, short in height, with a heavy build. The suspect had dark messy hair and wore a blue jacket and blue pants.

The incident was reported to VicPD on Wednesday, February 2nd.
