Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man on Friday just seven minutes after an attempted knifepoint robbery in downtown Victoria.

Shortly before noon on Friday, March 4th, Patrol officers responded to a report of an attempted knifepoint robbery in the 1400-block of Government Street. A woman was walking in the area when she was approached by a man who brandished a knife and demanded her purse. The woman screamed and was able to distance herself from the man safely, at which point the suspect left the area on foot. The victim was not physically injured in the incident.

Officers gathered a description of the suspect and flooded the downtown area to search for the man. Within seven minutes, officers located and arrested the suspect within Centennial Square without further incident. The suspect was also found to be the subject of a Nanaimo RCMP warrant for failing to comply with a probation order.

Officers transported the suspect to VicPD cells where he was held in custody for a bail hearing. The suspect, a 25-year-old man, faces recommended charges of robbery with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
