As we all look ahead to brighter days and the return of Team Canada to the hardcourt, join us in celebrating some of the greatest wheelchair basketball performances from Canada’s storied past. It’s bracket season and we’re calling on Canadians to cast their vote to decide the top Team Canada performance in history!

Sydney 2000 – Women

Canadians have spoken… the Paralympic three-peat at Sydney 2000 has been voted as the top Team Canada performance in wheelchair basketball history!

Canada with the three-peat. The Canadian women defeated host Australia in front of 16 thousand fans for their third consecutive Paralympic gold medal – a record that stands to this day. No other team has won three straight gold medals at the Paralympic Games.

Barcelona 1992 – Women

Underdog Canada defeated rival USA in a huge upset for the first Paralympic gold medal in Canadian history. The victory established Canada as an emerging powerhouse and propelled the women to a dynasty run in the 1990s and 2000s.

Sydney 2000 – Men

The Canadian men won their first Paralympic gold medal in history. The men ran the table 8-0 in a coming out party that established Canada as the team to beat in wheelchair basketball for years to come.

Athens 2004 – Men

The Canadian men were unstoppable and remained undefeated en route to back-to-back Paralympic gold medals. With its incredible depth, this Canadian team was one of the most dominant teams in wheelchair basketball history.

2006 Worlds – Women

Canada captured a fourth consecutive world championship crown. The women cruised through the round robin and quarters, then closed out Germany and the USA en route to gold. Canadian Danielle Peers made her mark as tournament MVP.

2006 Worlds – Men

The Canadian men claimed their first world championship title in history in dominant fashion, including a thrilling comeback victory over rival Australia in the semifinals before taking down the USA for gold.

London 2012 – Men

Canada delivered another dominant performance, bolstered by the return of the legendary Patrick Anderson. The Canadians went undefeated to win a third Paralympic gold medal in four consecutive finals appearances.

2014 Worlds – Women

The Canadian women captured the gold medal on home soil in Toronto, marking their fifth title at the world championships. The storied run included some clutch shooting heroics in the final second from Janet McLachlan in the semifinals.
