How to apply?

Canadian citizens do not require a Schengen Visa for stays in the Schengen area for up to 90 days within a period of 180 days for business, visitor and/or tourist purposes. During the visa-free stay it is not permitted to take up any employment while in Austria.

Please note these important regulations concerning the passport requirements:

  • Its validity has to extend the duration of your stay by at least three months
  • It has to contain at least two blank pages
  • It must have been issued within the last ten years. A passport older than ten years that has been extended for a period exceeding ten years from the time of issuance cannot be accepted.

Non-Canadian citizens, who wish to stay in Austria or transit via Austria may require a Schengen visa depending on their citizenship.

Holders of a Canadian refugee travel document, who wish to stay in Austria for up to 90 days, require a Schengen visa.

Nationals of EU/EEA countries and Swiss nationals do not need a visa for entry to Austria. For entry to Austria they only need a valid travel document (passport or identity card). A residence permit issued from Austria or another Schengen state in combination with a valid travel document entitles the visa holder to move freely across the other Schengen states' territory for up to 90 days within a period of 180 days.
