The Government of Canada consulted Canadians on the new Canada Disability Benefit. Canadians were invited to share their thoughts on benefit details, such as eligibility and benefit amount, to help inform the development of the regulations for the Canada Disability Benefit.
What is the Canada Disability Benefit?
The Canada Disability Benefit Act (the Act) became law when it received Royal Assent on June 22, 2023. The Act provides the framework for a new Canada Disability Benefit. This benefit is being created to reduce poverty and support the financial security of working-age people with disabilities.

The feedback submitted was to help inform the development of regulations for the Canada Disability Benefit. Answers were confidential. No personal information was collected or reported. A summary of all the feedback received is to be included in a report on the regulatory engagement process, which will be tabled in Parliament and published on the Employment and Social Development Canada website.
You had until January 4, 2024 at 23:59 (Eastern Time) to provide your feedback, through various methods.

Canadians were invited to use the online engagement tool. The questions were also available in American Sign Language (ASL) and Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ). They could give feedback directly in the tool or through one of the other communications methods listed in this section.

They could also have asked for the tool in alternate formats, including large print, braille, MP3 (audio), e-text and DAISY formats.
Who is the focus of this consultation
We wanted to hear from all members of the public, especially persons with disabilities, their families and caregivers.

We were looking for your feedback on any of these topic areas of the regulations for the Canada Disability Benefit Act:

- applications and payments

- reconsiderations and appeals
- compliance and enforcement
- best practices or tools
- general comments
Comments are being analyzed and used to shape regulations for the Canada Disability Benefit. The draft regulations will be published in Part I of the Canada Gazette (the official newspaper of the Government of Canada).
The online engagement tool provided an overview of the regulatory areas under the Canada Disability Benefit Act, and space for comments. ASL and LSQ translations were available within the tool.
