Share your thoughts: Canada's Voluntary National Review on Sustainable Development Goals

Every Canadian has a role to play in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to help build a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous world.

Employment and Social Development Canada sought input to inform the Government of Canada's second Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the SDGs. This review will report on Canada's progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and outline whole-of-society and whole-of-government contributions towards the SDGs.

Who was the focus of this consultation

This survey was open to all Canadians, including:

• Civil society organizations (CSOs) or non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
  • Any non-profit, voluntary citizens' group organized on a local, national or international level
• Private Sector
  • For-profit organizations or enterprising entities engaged in commercial, industrial, or professional activities
• Academia
  • Both for-profit and non-profit organizations and institutions concerned with the pursuit of research and education
• Provincial/Territorial governments
  • Elected authorities and legislatures with mandates for lawmaking within the Provincial and Territorial order 
• Indigenous organizations
• Municipal governments
  • Elected authorities and councils providing local services, facilities, safety and infrastructure for communities
• Youth organizations
  • Both for-profit and non-profit cross-sectoral organizations with a youth-related mandate

Key questions

The purpose of this consultation was to support the development of Canada's 2023 Voluntary National Review.

We were specifically looking for your views on:

• notable projects or initiatives to highlights
• sharing challenges and opportunities in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
• opportunities to increase awareness of the SDGs

The input that was gathered through this process will be used to inform Canada's 2023 Voluntary National Review which will aim to outline contributions towards the 17 SDGs with a focus on the following:

• SDG 1: No Poverty
• SDG 4: Quality Education
• SDG 5: Gender Equality
• SDG 13: Climate Action
• SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
