Women Deliver 2019 Conference: Government of Canada launches national committee to engage Canadians in taking action on gender equality

Minister Monsef chairs committee that brings together community leaders committed to gender equality in Canada

Canada is taking concrete actions to advance gender equality and empower women and girls both at home and around the world. As host of the Women Deliver 2019 Conference to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, from June 3 to 6, 2019, Canada will be engaging its citizens and global partners on how to make gender equality a reality for everyone, everywhere.
To that end, today, the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of International Development and Minister for Women and Gender Equality, launched a national committee comprising 16 leaders committed to gender equality.
The members of the committee—who come from a variety of sectors, including the media, sports, business, academics, civil society, and the arts — bring diverse perspectives on gender equality from across Canada. They include Simone Cavanaugh, Léa Clermont-Dion, Caroline Codsi, Charmaine Crooks, Genesa M. Greening, Cassandra Hallett, Helen Kennedy, Beth Lyons, Kevin McCort, Emily Mills, Heather Moyse, Shania Pruden, Paulette Senior, Catherine Tait, Vianne Timmons and Adina Williams.
The role of the committee is to increase awareness and encourage discussions on gender equality, diversity and inclusion by taking part in activities and engaging with Canadians from coast to coast to coast.
In their first meeting today, the members of the committee were joined by Katja Iversen, President and CEO of Women Deliver, and members of Women Deliver 2019 Mobilization Canada, a network of organizations working across the country to advocate for gender equality.

The Women Deliver Conference, held every three years, is the world’s largest gathering on gender equality and the health, rights and well-being of women and girls.

The conference is part of a global movement to promote gender equality worldwide that gives voice to a broad spectrum of people, including Indigenous peoples, youth and those living in conflict and crisis settings. It will bring together more than 6,000 individuals—world leaders, influencers, advocates, academics, activists, youth and journalists—from more than 160 countries, with an additional 100,000 people joining virtually.
