In order to fulfil their pastoral responsibilities to Indigenous Peoples, the Bishops of Canada have recognized a need, at both the diocesan and regional levels, to understand more deeply the lived experience within Indigenous communities, which differs considerably across our vast land, and to walk with them on the path of healing and harmony as they strive to attain a better future.

In light of this need and in this spirit, Listening Circles aim to provide a forum in which the Catholic Bishops of Canada, either individually or in small groups, can meet with Indigenous communities, including Elders, to discuss and reflect on matters of mutual importance.

From February 2018 to July 2018, Listening Circles were hosted by Bishops across the country in the following locations: Thompson, Manitoba; Moosonee, Ontario; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Edmonton, Alberta; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Trois-Rivières, Quebec; the “North” (held in Winnipeg); Victoria, British Columbia; Saint John, New Brunswick.

The Bishops of Canada are currently planning a new round of diocesan/regional Listening Circles on the theme of healing, with particular focus on the fundamental need for healing in our lives and communities. These healing-centered Circles are expected to take place between December 2019 and March 2020. Updates will be provided as they become available.
