Consultation has concluded

Over the past number of years, sections of Bay Bulls Road were upgraded with a 17.5 meter wide right of way. The scope of the current project involves the continued upgrading of Bay Bulls Road from Old Bay Bulls Road West (near Civic #100) to Long Beach Street.

The scope of work includes:

  • Installation of a new storm sewer system.
  • Storm laterals to each property.
  • Widening of the road, including new asphalt.
  • New sidewalks, curb and gutter on both sides of the road.
  • Re-alignment of Bay Bulls Rd and Old Bay Bulls Rd West intersection to provide a safer intersection for both drivers and pedestrians.

Occupational Health and Safety measures will be implemented based on the latest guidelines recommended for COVID-19.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised that Bay Bulls Rd will be restricted to local traffic only (residents, visitors and customers of businesses) from Old Bay Bulls Rd West (near Civic #100) to Long Beach Street in both directions beginning Tuesday, May 19th, 2020 at 7:00am until Friday, October 30, 2020 at 5:30pm.

Local traffic and emergency vehicles will have access with all other traffic detoured around the work site. Sidewalk and driveway access will be impacted. Traffic flow will be maintained by flagpersons and signage; slowdowns can be expected in the area. The City will make every effort to minimize disruptions and to maintain traffic flow.

We ask the public to obey and follow all posted signage in and near the construction zone.

Is Bay Bulls Road still under construction and is there still a detour there?

Irene asked over 3 years ago

Construction is complete for 2020 and the detour has been removed since the beginning of October.  The project is substantially complete, however there will be some minor work completed in May/June of 2021 which will not require a detour.

Will there be any placement of temporary speed bumps or something to slow traffic on Long Beach street, which is a residential street & now is being used as a high traffic main road

Wayne C asked almost 4 years ago

Temporary traffic calming (speed cushions, lights, etc) is not implemented during temporary detours created by construction projects. The detour via Long Beach is required for residents who live near that area of Kilbride. Concerns about speeding or other moving violations should be directed to the RNC as these are not within the City’s jurisdiction.

Will access to needs and Marie’s mini Mart be allowed?

Laggan asked almost 4 years ago

Yes, local traffic includes residents, business owners and visitors/customers to homes and businesses.  Please see this video from the City of St. John's titled "Local Traffic Only - What does it mean?" for more information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaAKMLJDJ_g

Is Bay Bulls Rd just west of cemetery included in this work?

Pottlpa asked almost 4 years ago

The work begins near Civic #100 Bay Bulls Rd to Civic #180 Bay Bulls Rd, as well as a portion of Old Bay Bulls Rd West near the intersection of Bay Bulls Rd.  Please refer to the Issued for Construction drawings in the Document Library for more information.
