About this event

Join host David Simpson, Director of Business Families Initiatives as we explore our theme for 2024 “Building Resilience.”

Our special guest this year is Olympic Gold medalist Alex Kopacz who will inspire us with Push Fast to Success: Olympic principles to help you push through anything.

In a world that moves faster than it ever has before, it's easy to feel the stress of falling behind. When pushed to the limits of balancing expectations and reality, the winning equation is to cultivate curiosity, imagination and creativity. For Kopacz, this has been true whether he is speeding through a run in a bobsleigh, or bootstrapping a million dollar business.

Discover the philosophy around Kopacz success and how he has translated lessons from a career in sport into entrepreneurial success and much more.

Speaker Bio:

Alex Kopacz was born and raised in London, Ontario and was always curious about the world. He loved asking questions and learning about how everything worked. He had a deep passion for history, the arts and of course, sport. Kopacz started his sporting career as a varsity level shot putter at University of Western Ontario. With encouragement from his university coaches, he attended a Canadian talent camp for bobsleigh athletes in April 2013, and the rest is history.

During his four years in the sport, Kopacz won 10 world cup medals, 1 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze with 1 crystal globe for the overall season. He still holds the start record in Altenberg, Germany. Kopacz’ crowning achievement was winning the Olympic Gold in two-man bobsleigh at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Since his time in sport, Kopacz has founded Step Sciences, a medical device company, putting his engineering and physics degree to use. The journey to his transformation from small town kid to Olympic champion took risk, daring bravely, decisiveness and a relentless hunger to never stop chasing after the goal.
