The Indigenous School Food Circle is an initiative co-hosted by the Coalition for Healthy School Food, Canadian Feed the Children and Farm to Cafeteria Canada.

It has been established: (1) To inform how the Coalition advocates for funding for school food programs in Indigenous communities and for Indigenous students, and (2) To support replication, networking and sharing of best practices among those who are coordinating and supporting school food programs in Indigenous communities and for Indigenous students.

Working group meetings are held every 2 months and will include advocacy discussions, sharing circles, conversations and presentations on different themes such as land based learning and providing traditional foods in schools. We welcome participation from representatives from organizations who can share their experiences implementing programs, and who can advise on and support advocacy.

If you would like to learn about working group meetings and get on our distribution list please reach out to Sydney Richards at SRichards@canadianfeedthechildren.ca.

Check out our map of stories of school food programs in Indigenous communities

This map was developed to share stories about school food programs in Indigenous communities and for Indigenous students. It allows viewers to access stories that have been shared in the media and stories on organizations’ and schools’ websites. Reach out to Carolyn Webb, Coalition Animation, at CWebb@sustainontario.ca if you would like to put your program on the map!
