Holding Redlich strengthens national partnership with three new hires

30 April 21 - Media Release

National law firm Holding Redlich continues to grow its construction and infrastructure capability in Victoria, welcoming partners Shaun Whittaker and Tony Rutherford from Mills Oakley and PwC, and extends its corporate and M&A capability in Queensland with the hire of Khilen Devani from Allens.

Holding Redlich’s National Managing Partner, Ian Robertson AO, said the firm was pleased to be attracting a high calibre of talent across the country, and across key sectors of growth.

“We know we are only as good as our people, so I’m delighted to welcome new partners into our fold with the necessary skills to service our growing client base in construction, infrastructure and projects and commercial transactions,” Mr Robertson said.

“Shaun, Tony and Khilen are talented lawyers who will each bring unique experience and knowledge to their respective practices.”

Shaun Whittaker has worked in the infrastructure and finance sector for 14 years and specialises in new economy transactions in social and economic infrastructure, technology and impact investment. His recent experience includes advising on the delivery and funding of various social and affordable housing projects, built-to-rent projects, specialist disability accommodation projects, hospital and healthcare projects, childcare facilities and technology platforms integrating with these sectors. Shaun was previously a partner at Mills Oakley and is listed in The Best Lawyers in Australia 2022 edition for Project Finance and Development Practice.

Tony Rutherford, formerly Mills Oakley and PwC, is a highly regarded and trusted adviser focused on construction, operations, services and development documentation, and dispute resolution for major infrastructure projects. Tony advises on large and complex infrastructure transactions and disputes across a wide range of sectors, including education, health, energy (including renewables), social and affordable housing, water, mining, oil and gas, roads and telecommunications. Tony regularly advises financiers, property developers, community housing providers and disability service providers (including start-ups) in relation to regulatory issues arising under the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Khilen Devani practices in corporate law, specialising in public and private mergers and acquisitions, equity capital raisings and corporate governance matters. He spent almost 10 years at Allens advising several high-profile clients in complex corporate and commercial transactions, playing a leading role in transaction structuring and strategy, due diligence and the negotiation of transaction documents. Khilen is recognised in The Best Lawyers in Australia 2021 and 2022 edition for Corporate Law and Mergers and Acquisition Law, and is particularly passionate about the mentorship of junior lawyers.

The three new partners commenced with Holding Redlich earlier this year and bring Holding Redlich’s national partnership to 64 lawyers across its Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne offices.
