T.V. Paul Best Book in Global International Relations Award

This award is established in honor of T.V. Paul, the 56th president of the International Studies Association (ISA) (2016-17) and the founding Director of the Global Research Network on Peaceful Change (GRENPEC). The book(s) selected for the GIRS Best Book Award should make a substantial theoretical and empirical contribution to the study and scholarship of Global IR, including global peaceful change.

  1. Recipient must be a member of ISA.
  2. Eligible books can be single- or multi-authored, or edited. 
  3. Eligible books must have been published within the two-year period preceding the year of the competition. For example, for our current award, the Books must have been published either in 2022 or 2023. A book shall be considered “published” in the year stated in the book itself.
  4. The subject matter of the book must fall into the broadly defined area or domain of Global IR.
  • The recipient will receive a plaque that will be presented at the ISA Annual Convention, and a $500 USD cash prize.
  • The committee consists of the chair and two members. Questions regarding the scope of the subject will be resolved at the sole discretion of the Awards Committee.
  • Nominated books must be sent to all three members of the selection committee, with a short nomination letter. Self-nominations are welcome.
  • Send nominations to committee chair, Marcin Grabowski who will provide mailing addresses for the other members.
  • The deadline to apply for this year's award is August 31.
