Cyril Lee Turley is the first RN in Ontario to become credentialed to prescribe certain medication and communicate diagnoses for the purpose of prescribing those medications. Turley completed his education through a new Georgian College online course. The course was approved late last year by the Ministry of Health and the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). Turley, who works at Manitoulin Island healthcare clinic, said that becoming the first person with the credential is “exciting and pioneering.” https://lnkd.in/gEKtYWug

RNs and RPNs — if you work directly with RPNs who are new to practice or if you're employed as a clinical instructor who works with senior-level RPN students, your expertise is needed! National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) needs your input to ensure future versions of the REx-PN exam reflect current clinical practice. Volunteers are needed for a practice analysis study this October in Chicago — airfare and lodging to be covered by NCSBN. Apply by Friday, May 3, 2024. Details here: https://lnkd.in/ghM9csez

"Dear CNO, my work has hired PSWs to help the nurses on our unit with our busy morning tasks. Can they help administer medication to clients? Am I accountable if they make an error?" Dina Vaidyaraj, RN and Advanced Practice Consultant, says that, "Context matters so much when it comes to health care decisions, and this is a wonderful example. Let’s unpack the different aspects you should consider." https://lnkd.in/g4e55c45

Measles cases are increasing worldwide and there is a risk that travellers who aren’t fully immunized may get infected and bring the disease back to Canada. It is important to stay up to date on vaccinations and know the symptoms of measles. Measles is a highly infectious disease that is characterized by fever, cough, red eyes, and a red rash that can begin on the face and then spread to the rest of the body. For more information and advice on measles, check out the travel health notice on the Government of Canada website: https://lnkd.in/eKNZmFUe

This past weekend, CNO was honoured to join a panel discussion at the Nurse Practitioner Association of Canada’s 2024 conference. College of Nurses of Ontario’s own Registrar/Executive Director and CEO, Silvie Crawford, joined Cynthia Johansen (She/Her), Registrar & Chief Executive Officer of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives and Deb Elias, Chief Executive Officer/Registrar of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba on the panel. The discussion ranged from how we engage NPs, professional associations, labour unions and employers in our regulatory work; opportunities for national regulation of the profession; and how NP scope of practice has evolved in each of our jurisdictions. It was a terrific opportunity to engage with NPs and demonstrate how CNO is an effective and trusted organization whose purpose is to protect the public by promoting safe nursing practice. #npmomentum #ipdynamisme #npac2024 #aiipc2024 #NPs #NursePractitioners #nursing
