💐 Jeudi dernier, après une interruption due à la pandémie, le Service des bénévoles du CUSM a eu le plaisir de tenir son Déjeuner annuel d'appréciation des bénévoles en personne, dans le romantique Livingston Hall de l'Hôpital général de Montréal.   🎈 La salle était pleine à craquer de fleurs, de ballons, de lasagne, de soleil et des visages souriants de leurs estimés invités. 🌞   Les bénévoles de tous les sites ont été récompensés par un déjeuner servi par un traiteur - une petite marque de reconnaissance pour leurs heures de travail acharné, leur dévouement et leur générosité. 🙏   🎖 La Dre Lucie Opatrny, présidente et directrice générale du CUSM, s'est jointe à la fête. Elle a partagé un chaleureux mot de remerciement et a participé à la très attendue Cérémonie des épinglettes, où des épinglettes sont remises à ceux qui ont atteint le nombre d'heures de bénévolat le plus élevé, commençant à partir de 500 heures !   Diana Smith, bénévole au service des urgences et au Hospitality Corner de l'HGM, a reçu une épinglette en reconnaissance de ses 10 000 heures passées au service de notre communauté. 👏   Félicitations et un énorme merci à Diana et à chacun de nos sensationnels bénévoles ! Sans vous, nous ne pourrions pas y arriver ! 😊 💗   ***   💐 This past Thursday, after a hiatus due to the pandemic, MUHC Volunteer Services was thrilled to host their Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon in person, in the romantic Livingston Hall at the Montreal General Hospital.   🎈 The room was full to bursting with flowers, balloons, lasagna, sunshine and the smiling faces of their esteemed guests. 🌞   Volunteers from across all sites were honoured with a catered lunch - a small token of appreciation for their hours of hard work, dedication and generosity. 🙏   🎖 Dr. Lucie Opatrny, President and Executive Director of the MUHC, joined the party. She shared a warm word of thanks and participated in the much anticipated Pin Ceremony, where pins are handed out to those who had reached milestones in the number of hours volunteered, starting at a whopping 500 hours!   Diana Smith, a volunteer in the Emergency Department and Hospitality Corner at the MGH, was awarded a pin in recognition of her 10,000 hours spent in service of our community. 👏   Congratulations and an enormous thank you to Diana and to every single one of our sensational volunteers! We couldn’t do it without you! 😊 💗

🆕 Pan-Canadian project deep dive: How a newly funded project will use a multi-pronged approach to accelerate precision medicine for #ProstateCancer in #Canada. 🍁 🔙 Prostate cancers vary in risk. Some respond very well to current therapies, but others are are very aggressive and evade these therapies, returning with a vengeance. Knowing what cases are likely to be aggressive early on is essential to provide personalized treatments that can stop these cancers from becoming lethal. 🔜 To advance research in this area, a new multi-disciplinary team of clinicians and researchers from Quebec will use a multi-pronged approach to try to develop tests that predict who is at a greater risk of suffering from disease progression and create interventions to stop it. 1️⃣ On the one hand, the team will use patients samples from previous studies to do genomic and transcriptomic sequencing of prostate cancer tumours at the time of diagnosis and during the course of disease from cases whose cancer has progressed and led to death. 🎯 This will help them identify the genetic drivers of disease severity, metastatic progression and death and will help develop tests to search for those markers early on. 2️⃣ In tandem, the team will explore novel imaging approach called radiomics, which will help determine how different cancer cells within each patient’s tumour deposit in the prostate or metastasis, differentially respond to therapy. 🎯 This will help determine if there are imaging patterns that could help predict treatment response and select the best therapy for each patient. ➕ By combining these two approaches, they will have a wealth of data that will help find new ways to predict treatment response. This data will also be contributed to the MOHCCN Gold Cohort, so other researchers can use it to personalize treatments for cancer patients. Vince Dimayuga is an assistant nurse manager at The Neuro's Clinical Research Unit. CRU nurses draw blood, monitor vitals and assess patients and caregivers to ensure they are supported while in their care, among other things. 💓 Palpitations, étourdissements et essoufflements, des symptômes qui peuvent en faire voir de toutes les couleurs aux personnes atteintes de fibrillation auriculaire, la forme la plus courante d’arythmie cardiaque. Au Canada, plus de 5 % des personnes âgées de 65 ans et plus en souffrent. Près de la moitié d’entre eux nécessiteront une intervention qui vise à faire l’ablation des tissus du cœur à l’origine de l’arythmie. ☝ Le CUSM est le premier centre de soins au Québec à offrir l’ablation par champ pulsé, qui émet des champs électriques pour interrompre les signaux électriques irréguliers l’origine de l’arythmie. Cette nouvelle technologie est plus sécuritaire et permet de réduire de 30 à 50 % la durée de l’intervention, en rapport aux techniques usuellement utilisées. L’arrivée de cette nouvelle technologie n’aurait pu être concrétisée sans les travaux de recherche du Dr Atul Verma, directeur de la Division de cardiologie du CUSM et chercheur à l’IR-CUSM, et sans le travail d’équipe de la cardiologie, de l’électrophysiologie cardiaque, des soins infirmiers et du service d’approvisionnement du CUSM. 🙌 Plus de détails par ici : 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eEKsh7a6 ----- 💓 Palpitations, dizziness and shortness of breath - these are symptoms that can take their toll on people suffering from atrial fibrillation, the most common form of cardiac arrhythmia. In Canada, more than 5% of people aged 65 and over suffer from this condition. Nearly half of them will require an intervention to remove the heart tissue causing the arrhythmia. ☝ The MUHC is the first healthcare center in Quebec to offer pulsed-field ablation, which emits electric fields to interrupt the irregular electrical signals that cause arrhythmia. This new technology is safer and reduces the duration of the procedure by 30-50%, compared with conventional techniques. Qu'est-ce qui a amené Aïda à travailler comme orthophoniste ?   « Quand je repense à mes études universitaires, j’avais les intérêts classiques d’un futur orthophoniste, à savoir la linguistique, la psychologie et les neurosciences. Je pense avoir trouvé ma voie en travaillant dans le domaine de la dysphagie et du cancer de la tête et du cou. Coleen Maramag, a nurse in stroke and neurosurgery, faces each day's challenges with compassion and determination. She finds fulfillment in bringing joy to patients and their families, especially in vulnerable moments. “Working as a Neuro nurse, something that makes me proud is seeing the patients and their family members happy, especially at a moment when they are vulnerable. They know that there is someone who takes care of them,” she explains. --------------------- Coleen Maramag, une infirmière dévouée en neurochirurgie et en neurologie, relève chaque jour les défis avec compassion et détermination.
