Recognizing foreign credentials is a critical step for immigrants to utilize their knowledge, skills and abilities to make a difference in Canada and have a positive immigrant experience. In 1995, after working as a minimum wage employee at GM Place (Rogers Arena), the BC Government's Ministry for Children and Family Development gave me my first Social Work job and recognized my foreign credentials after BC Association of Social Workers assessed and approved them. This recognition completely changed my career trajectory and immigrant experience. While it has taken decades for change to happen, the international foreign credentials initiative will be life changing for many and help us build a stronger BC economy. Thank you, Premier David Eby & Government of British Columbia, for Bill 38! "If passed, Bill 38, the International Credentials Recognition Act, will remove barriers such as redundant language testing and requirements for work experience in Canada for 29 professions, including engineers, lawyers, teachers and social workers." #foreigncredentials #immigration

It always amazes me how Canada has difficulty in recognizing the knowledge and skills of people coming from different parts of the world. I feel it's sheer arrogance, intellectual incompetency and lack of skill of Canadian institutions and organizations when they can't identify talent. Knowing that you did your MSW from TISS and still had to struggle to get your first social work job is a clear example of how long and far Canadian society has to go and grow to recognize that knowledge and talent exist outside the Canadian bubble too 😒

Sobhana (Shob-na) Jaya-Madhavan That’s a welcome change!!! Certain occupations like K-12 #Teachers, where #English language proficiency cannot be entirely done away, BC #TRB has already lowered the Academic #IELTS requirement by .5 Bands, so more foreign qualified & experienced teachers can be licensed to overcome the shortage.
