This afternoon, I facilitated a workshop on "Managing Conflict in Disability Management" for 20 amazing employees from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC). By sharing practical tips and digging into how to handle conflicts in disability situations, participants are now ready to handle tough moments with empathy, professionalism, and confidence!

Many thanks to Sarah Crosbie from QR Radio Calgary for inviting me to speak with her listeners about the conflict de-escalation training I’ve been delivering to hundreds of people from many different industries over the last few years. We discussed how I developed the first de-escalation program for the Ottawa Police Service, which they eventually integrated into their basic training. Support staff are the backbone of any university. They provide essential services to students, faculty, and visitors, such as academic advising, financial aid, library resources, IT support, and more. They also play a vital role in creating a safe and respectful campus environment, especially when they encounter challenging or stressful situations. That's why it's important that they're trained in de-escalating conflicts.
