Volvo XC40 Recharge and XC60 Recharge recognized amongst the best electric cars of 2021 by Autotrader

  • Volvo electrified vehicles earn two spots in Autotrader’s top ten EV list.
  • Luxury SUVs recognized for safety, style and electric performance.

(MAHWAH, N.J.) April 16, 2021: The fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge and XC60 Recharge plug-in hybrid have been named as two of the best electric cars for 2021 by Autotrader.

Experts at Autotrader recognize the industry’s rapid acceleration towards an electrified future and unveiled their top ten choices for the year to help consumers and first-time EV buyers navigate the number of available options and factors to consider when making the switch to a greener alternative.

As the first fully electric compact SUV from Volvo, the XC40 Recharge was spotlighted for its stellar safety ratings, sleek Scandinavian-inspired interior and electric range of more than 200 miles, making it the perfect choice for practical commuters.

The XC40 Recharge offers 402 horsepower and introduces the first automotive infotainment system with Android Automotive OS embedded. It is also the first Volvo car that can receive both software and operating system updates over the air, providing added convenience for drivers.

The XC60 Recharge plug-in hybrid was recognized for powerful performance, a 57 MPGe combined economy rating and all-wheel drive capability. Autotrader also called attention to the mid-size SUV’s practicality and stylish design stemming from the Swedish automaker’s Scandinavian roots.

The five-passenger XC60 Recharge offers innovative technology, optimal family space and all the safety of a Volvo. Its electric motor and gas engine work in harmony to provide a dynamic driving experience with less tailpipe emissions. With a fully charged battery, the XC60 Recharge can fulfill the needs of many commuters purely using the electric motor.

In March 2021 Volvo Cars announced its ambition to become a fully electric car company by 2030. More immediately, Volvo Cars will roll out a fully electric car every year to make all-electric cars 50 percent of its global sales by 2025.

Editors at Autotrader determined their top recommendations based on evaluating a range of criteria such as costs, incentives, purchasing availability, battery life and driving range.
