Justin Bieber reflects on “uneducated” past use of N-word in new anti-racism post

"Stand up against racism"

Justin Bieber has spoken out on his past use of “uneducated” and “hurtful” racist language, which saw him face a barrage of controversy in 2014.

The Candian pop star was heard making racist jokes and using the N-word in a leaked video clip five years ago. “Why are black people afraid of chainsaws?” he said at one point, before repeating the phrase: “Run n*****”.

Bieber soon issued an apology following the backlash, writing in a statement: “I’m very sorry. I take my friendships with people of all cultures very seriously and I apologise for offending or hurting anyone with my childish and inexcusable mistake.”

Taking to Instagram yesterday (December 3), the singer uploaded an image of the words “STAND AGAINST RACISM” along with a caption in which he reflected on his past mistake.

“When I was young I was uneducated and found myself saying really hurtful things not knowing the power of my words,” Bieber wrote.

“Racism is still very prevalent and I want to use my voice to remind we are all human being and all of EQUAL VALUE BEFORE GOD!”

The leaked footage in question was reportedly filmed for Bieber’s 2011 documentary Never Say Never and was obtained by The Sun. At the time of publication, the newspaper claimed that representatives for the artist had spent money trying to keep the clip out of the public eye.

Last year, Bieber faced legal action for using racial slurs and allegedly punching a man at a hotel. The lawsuit related to an incident that took place back in 2016.

Justin Bieber, meanwhile, appears to be sitting on a finished new album. Back in October, he took to Instagram with the message: “If this gets 20 million likes, Justin Bieber will release an album before Christmas.” However, the post currently stands just shy of 12 million likes.
