EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill amends the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 to require the Minister of Health to make progress reports describing the extent to which the Ministry has implemented the recommendations made in the final report issued by Ontario’s Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission.

An Act to amend the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 to require reporting on the implementation of the recommendations of Ontario’s Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1 The Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 is amended by adding the following section:

Commission’s report

185.1  (1)  The Minister shall ensure that the final report issued by Ontario’s Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission on April 30, 2021 is made available to the public on a Government of Ontario website.

Progress reports

(2)  The Minister shall prepare a first and second progress report describing the extent to which the Ministry has implemented the recommendations made in the Commission’s final report.

Timing of reports to Assembly

(3)  The Minister shall lay the first progress report before the Assembly on or before April 30, 2022 and shall lay the second progress report before the Assembly on or before April 30, 2024.

Publication

(4)  The Minister shall publish each of the progress reports on a Government of Ontario website within 10 days after the report is laid before the Assembly.

Commencement

2 This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3 The short title of this Act is the Long-Term Care Commission’s Recommendations Reporting Act, 2021.
