Ford helping Charles McVety confer science degrees, but McVety undermines science

QUEEN’S PARK — Doug Ford and his political backer Charles McVety appear to have cooked up a backroom deal that would allow McVety’s school, the Canada Christian College (CCC) to confer university degrees in science, but McVety’s classes, conferences and comments show that he plays an active role in undermining and denying science.

“Is global warming Earth worship?” McVety asks as part of a class at CCC, in which students also learn “What do the Four Blood Moons tell us?” McVety has been clear that he believes the earth is 6,000 years old, and that carbon pricing efforts are “the Anti-Christ.”

“Charles McVety is a climate science denier,” said NDP Postsecondary Education critic Chris Glover. “Why should someone who actively undermines science be given the authority to decide who receives a university degree in science?

“Doug Ford’s efforts to give his friend and political backer the authority to hand out university degrees in science undermines the world-class reputation of Ontario’s universities and colleges.”
