Three of these scholarships are given to students beginning post-secondary school right after finishing high school. The other six are saved for students “classified as mature by their post-secondary institutions,” reads a media release.

Application deadline is Jan. 31. Winners are selected by an external committee with expert knowledge in Indigenous education and academia. “Successful applicants will be contacted in early March.”

“We’ve been privileged to support some incredibly deserving individuals in their education journeys through this program. We are thrilled to be continuing this program for 2024,” said Brian Geislinger, senior vice-president of corporate relations and community engagement with Blue Cross.

Due to a successful number of applications last year, the allowance of mature student winners doubled.

The program has run since 2000, and over 100 scholarships have been granted, with funds coming from Blue Cross’s community foundation.
