LEADERS RAISING LEADERS

change-makers that connect, support AND raise OTHERS up

RaiseHER Co. is a Saskatchewan-based, for-impact, leadership skill development and advocacy organization that recognizes the shared and diverse challenges that women and girls across all industries, backgrounds, walks of life and spectrums face. Inclusivity is one of our core values. In that spirit, we are a non-partisan organization and welcome individuals of all genders, gender identities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, careers, backgrounds, ethnicities, races, cultures, political and spiritual beliefs, social or marital statuses, ages, health statuses, lifestyle, mental or physical abilities, socio-economic statuses, or any other attribute.

Land acknowledgment and our commitment to reconciliation

As we set out to further expand our own anti-racist education and better understand the impact of our settler ancestry, we got inspired by a news story we heard in late 2021 that shared how grade 8 students from Willowgrove School in Saskatoon were adopting one of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action for the year and creating change that way.

We have adapted our own land acknowledgement to further reflect our commitment to answering Call to Action #41 and will be incorporating further education and activism throughout the course of the year.

41. We call upon the federal government, in consultation with Aboriginal organizations, to appoint a public inquiry into the causes of, and remedies for, the disproportionate victimization of Aboriginal women and girls. The inquiry’s mandate would include:

  • i. Investigation into missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls.

ii. Links to the intergenerational legacy of residential schools.
Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, 2012

RaiseHER Co. acknowledges and honours the Indigenous lands on which we live and work, the traditional land of the Nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota and Nakoda, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. We pay respect to the Indigenous Peoples who have lived and continue to live in this territory and whose culture, practices and spirituality are tied to this land. We acknowledge our settler ancestry and the colonization that has created the current crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. This is one aspect of the broad spectrum of violence that was accepted and justified in our society since early contact and further bolstered by our own acts. Addressing this crisis requires unravelling the layers of federal, provincial and municipal laws and policies that continue to dehumanize Indigenous women and girls, and reaffirming tribal sovereignty to safeguard their lives.

By acknowledging the history, land and people of Treaty 4 Territory, we demonstrate our respect for First Nations and Métis communities and people and commit to act on truth and reconciliation through listening, seeking to understand and growing strong together.
