Kibo Mulima of Wilfrid Laurier will be the only Black curler at the U Sports championship, a reality that he is bringing attention to by participating in initiatives that tackle the sport’s diversity.

WATERLOO — The Canadian men’s national curling championship featured 18 teams, and not a single competitor resembled Kibo Mulima.

The second-year Wilfrid Laurier University student from Inverary, near Kingston, is doing what he can to change that, to encourage people from diverse backgrounds to become involved in the popular winter pastime.
