Over the next few months during the transition of the system, we will continue to work closely with your Tomahawk REA Board, Battle River Power Coop, various government agencies and within our own organization to ensure the orderly and efficient transfer of the system.
As new information becomes available, we will provide you with updates on this page. This website will serve as an informative resource for the transition of your service. If you would like to reach out with questions, please call our number dedicated to the Tomahawk REA transfer at 1-844-514-4050 or by email at [email protected].
Your electric service during the transition period
Outages and Upgrades/Changes: For the time being, Battle River Power Coop (780-672-7738) will continue to operate the system and be your contact for outages and service upgrades or for other matters related to your existing service.
New Services: In anticipation of the pending transfer of services, Tomahawk REA will no longer accept new members or connect new services as these requests will now be completed by FortisAlberta. Please contact our customer care centre, located in Airdrie, at 310-WIRE (9473).
Tomahawk REA members made their voices heard and chose to sell their electric distribution assets to FortisAlberta. We are happy to provide safe and reliable electrical distribution services to you as soon as the transition is complete.
We anticipate that transition activities will be complete by July 9, 2024. At this time, FortisAlberta will pay the agreed upon purchase price to Tomahawk REA and the Board will then distribute the proceeds to members. Once that payment is made, and both FortisAlberta and Tomahawk REA have “closed” the transaction and your REA’s management will be able to work towards distributing the proceeds to members.
What's coming
FortisAlberta Rate Assessments – Calls start April 2, 2024
Starting April 2, 2024, FortisAlberta representatives will reach out to every Tomahawk REA member by phone to discuss your electric service. The information we gather from these calls will determine the rate class that will be assigned to you as a FortisAlberta customer. Members can also reach out to FortisAlberta directly by calling us at 310-WIRE (9473) to schedule an appointment for a rates discussion.
Protecting your privacy: Our representatives will already have access to your basic member information, including your name and your land location. We will ask general questions regarding your electrical service and what you use it for. We will not ask you for personal financial information. If you are contacted by anyone claiming to be from FortisAlberta who requests your banking or financial information, please hang up and notify us at 310-WIRE (9473) or email us at [email protected] regarding the incident.
Alberta Utilities Commission Review
FortisAlberta is regulated by the Alberta Utilities Commission or the “AUC.” The AUC is an independent provincial regulatory agency. As FortisAlberta’s regulator, the AUC is required to approve the transfer of Tomahawk REA’s distribution assets to our company, as well as FortisAlberta’s assumption of responsibility to serve you as our customer.
We will ask the AUC to begin its review of this transfer in early April. While we cannot exactly predict when the AUC will issue its final approvals, we do not expect that this process will delay our targeted transfer date, which we are projecting to be in early July.
Member Welcome Package – May / June
Based upon the information gathered during the rate assessment calls, FortisAlberta will mail out a welcome package to all members. Included in the package will be your FortisAlberta Site Identification number and the rate class assigned to you with a breakdown of pricing. If you have questions about the rate class assigned, you can contact us any time after receipt of the welcome package to discuss. Customers will have ninety days from July 9, 2024 to contact us and request a change for billing purposes. Completion and delivery of the welcome packages is dependent on the information gathered during the rate assignment phone calls and the creation of member site identification numbers. If you have not received your welcome package in the mail by June 21, 2024 please contact us at 1-844-514-4050 or [email protected].
Reviewing Facilities – April & May
Starting April 8 you can expect to see FortisAlberta staff, in marked vehicles, inspecting in detail the power line by foot and by vehicle including power poles, transformers and meters on member’s property. They will be looking for ways to improve the service in the Tomahawk area and ensure we are ready to operate July 9, 2024.
Meter Exchange Day & Payment to Tomahawk REA – July 9, 2024
