The City of Toronto and Team Toronto vaccination partners continue to make getting vaccinated against COVID-19 as easy as possible. On Monday, the City is entering the next phase of its COVID-19 vaccination program by adding more mobile vaccination teams that will increase hyper-local vaccination opportunities.
In support of the next phase of the vaccination program and as previously announced at the end of July, this Sunday will be the last day of operations at the City-run Carmine Stefano Community Centre, Malvern Community Recreation Centre, North Toronto Memorial Community Centre and Toronto Congress Centre vaccination clinics.
These four clinics have administered more than 380,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, helping keep Torontonians across the city safe but have seen a dramatic drop in vaccinations over the last several weeks. As an integral part of the Team Toronto vaccination effort, the staff working at the clinics protected some of the city’s most vulnerable communities by increasing vaccination coverage in high-priority neighbourhoods.
More than 300 Toronto Public Health staff from the four clinics will now be pivoting to support pop-up and mobile clinics heading to areas with lower vaccination rates. This redeployment will add more mobile clinic teams to Toronto Public Health’s five mobile teams currently administering vaccines across the city. The new teams will significantly increase the City’s ability to bring vaccines directly to workplaces, faith groups, organizations and communities that experience barriers to vaccination and low vaccine uptake.
Five City-run clinics continue to operate on a modified schedule with capacity to vaccinate 12,800 people every week. The City-run Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Scarborough Town Centre, Mitchell Field Arena, The Hangar and Cloverdale Mall clinics will now be open for scheduled and walk-in vaccinations Tuesdays through Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. More information on City-run clinics is on the City’s COVID-19: How to Get Vaccinated webpage.
Toronto Public Health is reporting 141 new cases of COVID-19 in Toronto today. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 172,767 cases of COVID-19. There are 30 people hospitalized. To date, there have been 3,618 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto. In total, 167,828 people have recovered. COVID-19 case status data can be found on Toronto Public Health’s reporting dashboard.
While vaccination progress continues, all people in the city are urged to continue to follow public health measures, including staying home when sick, practising physical distancing and wearing a mask when physical distancing is not possible. Residents who exhibit any COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has had COVID-19 should get tested as soon as possible.
