News Release
December 22, 2021

Team Toronto continues to make progress to help residents get vaccinated and has now administered more than half a million third doses to Toronto residents over the past six weeks, with more than 125,000 booster doses delivered in the last seven days.

Third doses of COVID-19 vaccines became available to residents 70 years and older at the beginning of November. Eligibility was expanded to more than one million Toronto residents aged 18 and above on Monday, December 20.

Team Toronto continues to work hard to increase vaccination capacity throughout the city including:

  • Five City of Toronto-run mass immunization clinics and mobile clinics
  • More than 500 pharmacies across Toronto
  • Primary care providers
  • Hospital clinics
  • Ontario Health Teams

Team Toronto is providing opportunities for all residents to get their first, second or third (booster) dose of COVID-19 vaccine over the holidays with a number of clinic options from Saturday, December 25 through Monday, December 27. Team Toronto is working hard to further expand vaccination capacity over the holidays.

Over the last week, Team Toronto’s total capacity to administer vaccinations has gone from 400,000 doses per month to more than 1.2 million doses. The City continues to work with Toronto Public Health (TPH), its health care partners and the Government of Ontario to further ramp up booster dose capacity.

The City and the Province are working on options that would increase capacity, including encouraging more pharmacies and doctors to sign up to offer vaccines, and more retired employees with experience administering vaccines to help at clinics.

Given the threat posed by the Omicron variant, there is a critical need for all eligible Toronto residents to get their first, second and third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible. A growing number of Team Toronto vaccine clinics are operating across the city for children aged five to 11 years to get their first dose, and for those 12 years of age and older to get their first, second or third dose (when eligible). Vaccine eligibility guidelines are available on the City’s Vaccine Eligibility & Doses webpage,

Today, Team Toronto partners will administer thousands of vaccines at City-run clinics, hospital partner clinics, local pharmacies and doctors’ offices, including the following clinic locations:

Given the emergence of the new COVID-19 Omicron variant and ongoing community transmission of the Delta variant, TPH urges all eligible residents to book their third-dose appointment as soon as possible to ensure they have an extra layer of protection. Residents who have not yet received their first or second COVID-19 vaccine shot are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. COVID-19 vaccines lower the risk of serious illness, hospitalization and death, while protecting oneself, loved ones and the community.

Residents should also continue to follow public health measures such as mask wearing, good hand hygiene and physical distancing. Those who have symptoms of COVID-19 are asked to stay at home and get tested as soon as possible. More information about COVID-19 in Toronto is available at the City’s website.
