Faith & Consent Workshop

  • VIU Library - Building 305, Room 507 (Top Floor of Library) 900 Fifth Street Nanaimo, BC, V9R 5S5 Canada (map)

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Robyn Wilson will offer three mini talks exploring some of the spaces where she sees the topics of faith and consent intersect: childhood, free will, and sexual ethics. In between each talk, you will be invited to engage with the topic for yourself and to express your own beliefs. This workshop is designed to help you identify any overly simplistic messages you've been handed and to consider a wider
and more nuanced perspective.

Advance registration not required. All students are welcome to join this workshop.

SPEAKER BIO

Robyn Wilson began her university career at VIU in 2014. While she did manage to complete her B.Sc. in Honours Mathematics at Simon Fraser University, she discovered that a fulfilling career for her would involve fewer numbers and more people. She now provides spiritual care and mentorship for students here at VIU. University is a place where many of us are trying to figure out what we believe about the world and how that impacts the way we show up in it. Robyn loves to come alongside students who are on that journey as someone who has been in the thick of it for many years. Raising her daughter has been the catalyst for her further engaging with questions around consent as well as faith and realizing it's all a little more complicated than she once thought.
