Yellowhead County Municipal Campgrounds & Parks

Come and explore Yellowhead County’s municipal campgrounds. Our six campgrounds offer peaceful, quiet, family camping with a wide variety of activities for every age group. Campgrounds are open from mid-May to September.

Yellowhead County municipal campgrounds include Bear Lake, Shiningbank Lake, Long Lake, Beta Lake, Jerry Vanderwell Memorial Park, and Nojack.

  • Bear Lake

    Situated just 30 km northeast of Edson, Bear Lake has something for everyone. From fishing to water-skiing, to relaxing on the beach, the campground is a definite local favourite. You cannot beat this unique mix of tranquility and activity.

    a sandy beach, playground, boat Launch, two boat and swimming docks.

    Bear Lake Park remains one of Yellowhead County’s most popular Parks for water-based recreation. The sandy beach, clean water, and playground facilities continue to be very popular with the younger members of the family while the boat launch and docking areas play host to the more adventurous water enthusiasts.

    During the summer months, Bear Lake hosts a wide variety of interpretive events and activities for everyone in the family.

  • Long Lake Campground

    Hidden northeast of Edson is this sparkling gem of a place. For active, nature lovers and fishermen alike who enjoy a peaceful, relaxing, secluded area it’s the place to visit. Consisting of 16 campsites, two day-use sites, a boat dock, and many other amenities one can truly enjoy a superb time at this county park!

    Long Lake Campground is one of the most popular camping areas for fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts who desire a quiet, secluded getaway. Come and try your luck fishing at one of Alberta’s best Yellow Perch and Northern Pike fishing locations.

  • Shiningbank Lake

    Nestled within a quiet Aspen grove, Shiningbank offers a wide variety of family camping activities.  Playground facilities, a sandy beach, and the roped swimming area remain quite popular on warm summer days. 

    Boaters enjoy the excellent launching and docking facilities provided by the County while touring one of the area’s largest lakes.

  • Beta Lake

    Situated north of the hamlet of Mackay, rests the charming Beta Lake. Quiet and serene – this is a great campsite for those who want to get away from it all and enjoy an undisturbed, peaceful time in a natural, beautiful area. Home to five campsites and two day-use sites, with clean outhouses, plentiful wood, and an user-friendly boat launch, it has everything one needs without all the crowds. A great spot for some quiet fishing, it’s a super campground for real nature lovers!

    A beautiful, quiet campground located on the south shore of Beta Lake. This campground offers good fishing for Northern Pike and Yellow Perch, bird watching opportunities as well as swimming and boating facilities.

  • Jerry Vanderwell Memorial Park

    Quiet and peaceful camping in wooded surroundings. An excellent location for those who just want to get away.

  • Nojack Park

    This is one lovely place especially for being located right off of Highway 16. Beautiful, lush pine trees give the area a wonderful, cozy atmosphere. With drinking water, outhouses and other amenities that are kept clean and in great condition, this is a wonderful place to have lunch or spend the night if travelling on the highway.

    Campground Info:

    24 Campsites, Day Use Shelter.

    The perfect rest area for weary travellers driving between Edmonton and Jasper.

    Fees:

    $20.00 per night

Campground fees are $20.00 per unit per night. The campgrounds feature outhouse facilities and hand-pump water wells. Firewood is available for purchase from the campground operators.

County campgrounds are self-registration parks and are patrolled daily and nightly by campground operators to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay.

There are on-site campground operators at Bear Lake and part-time at Shining Bank with a call-in reservation system.
